Saying in original language: work like a beaver
English translation of the saying: work like a beaver
Language: English
Meaning in English: "eager beaver" - someone who is in earnest or overzealous in her work or in pursuit of an objective. The beaver's bent for hard work and persistence is legendary, but can you imagine the "industrious beaver"? That doesn't sound as catchy. To "work like a beaver" is an American saying of the 1800s. The eager version is a 20th century variant also originating in the United States. (taken from the Dictionary of Cliches, by James Rogers, NY: Ballantine Books, 1985)
