Saying in original language: Eselsbrücke
English translation of the saying: donkey bridge
Language: German
Meaning in English: Another word in German for a mnemonic technique/rule - a technique for remembering something better. Also, a person called a 'donkey' in German is someone who is fairly stupid (=not intelligent), so it must have been considered at the beginning that only fools do such things (like making a node in a handkerchief), but meanwhile this word has lost this negative connotation. The latter probably because nearly everybody has to use such techniques for remebering things nowadays.
